Recentemente abbiamo recensito qui
il nuovo ep dei newyorchesi Xtinguish The Code, un gran bel disco di hardcore e metlacore alla newyorchese, con testi molto potenti e che prendono decisamente posizione. Grazie a David Brenner di Earsplit abbiamo avuto la possibilità di fare due chiacchiere molto interessanti con il frontman del gruppo, Bernard Allen.
- Ciao, potreste presentarvi ai nostri lettori?
- Salve. Sono Bernard, il frontman degli Xtinguish The Code.
- Com’è nato il vostro ultimo album, e cosa vi aspettate da questa pubblicazione?
Con questo album abbiamo voluto esplorare le sofferenze della classe lavoratrice. Volevamo raccontare la storia di una persona che fa tutto per bene, lavora duramente ed è una brava persona, ma che continua a essere schiacciata da cose fuori dal suo controllo. - Il vostro sound fonde hardcore e metal: come è nata questa fusione, e quali sono le vostre principali influenze?
Il sound è una combinazione di tutte le nostre influenze. New York hardcore e metalcore. New York ha sempre avuto un suono a metà tra questi due generi. Ci ispiriamo a band come Leeway, Hatebreed, Irate District 9, ecc. - Venendo da New York, nello specifico dal Bronx: qui in Europa abbiamo un’immagine molto semplicistica, quasi cinematografica, del vostro quartiere. Come lo descrivereste? Com’è davvero il vostro quartiere, e quanto vi ispira nel vostro lavoro?
Rappresentiamo diverse zone di New York, da Brooklyn al Bronx fino a poco più a nord dello stato. Direi sicuramente che l’attitudine newyorkese ha influenzato la band immensamente. Tutti i nostri quartieri, nel loro insieme, sono piuttosto vivaci, rumorosi e affollati, ma anche, in un modo strano, molto rilassanti. - Come si è evoluta l’attuale scena hardcore metal di New York?
Fortunatamente, in tutta New York la musica dura sta vivendo una specie di rinascita. Ci sono un sacco di nuove band fortissime, e tutti sembrano più disposti a fare concerti che mescolano generi diversi. - Per te, l’hardcore è solo musica, o rappresenta anche un possibile stile di vita?
Per me è decisamente uno stile di vita. Ha influenzato gran parte della direzione della mia vita da quando ho scoperto la musica hardcore e la scena. La maggior parte dei miei migliori amici li ho conosciuti attraverso questo movimento. - Il vostro ultimo album si intitola “The Conflict”: il conflitto del titolo è la sfida quotidiana, oppure rappresenta qualcos’altro?
Il conflitto rappresenta proprio la sfida quotidiana della persona che lavora. Persone che si alzano ogni giorno per fare la cosa giusta verso le proprie famiglie e i propri concittadini, ma che vengono continuamente schiacciate dall’economia e da chi manipola le regole del gioco a proprio favore. - Quali sono i vostri progetti futuri?
Abbiamo intenzione di fare tutta la musica brutale che possiamo e di continuare a diffondere un messaggio populista, nella speranza di unire le persone.

– Hello, could you please introduce yourselves to our readers? –
Greetings. I’m Bernard, the frontman for Xtinguish The Code
– How did your latest album come about, and what do you expect from this release? –
With this album, we wanted to explore the grievances of the working class.
We wanted to create a story of an individual who does all the right things works hard and is a good person, that continues to be beaten down by things out of their control
– Your sound blends hardcore and metal, how did this fusion come about, and what are your main inspirations? –
The sound is a combination of all of our influences. New York hardcore and metalcore. New York has always had a sound that bordered both of those genres. We are inspired by bands like Leeway, Hatebreed, Irate District 9, etc..
– Coming from New York, specifically the Bronx. we have a very simplistic, almost cinematic image of your neighborhood here in Europe. How would you describe it? What is it really like in your neighborhood, and how much of it inspires your work? –
We represent multiple areas of New York from Brooklyn, the Bronx to slightly upstate. I would definitely say New York attitude has influenced the band immensely. All of our collective neighborhoods are pretty active, loud, and congested, but also in a weird way very calming.
-How has the current hardcore metal scene in New York developed?-
Luckily, throughout New York hard music has been seeing some sort of a renaissance. There’s a lot of killer new bands, and everybody seems more willing to do. Cross genre type shows.
– For you, is hardcore just music, or is it also a possible way of life? –
For me it’s definitely a way of life. It’s influenced much of the direction of how I have lived my life since discovering hardcore music and the scene. Most of my best friends were met through this movement.
– Your latest album is titled “The Conflict”,is the conflict in the title a daily challenge, or does it represent something else?
The conflict does represent the daily challenge of the working person. People who get up every day to do right by their families and their fellow citizens, but are constantly being beaten down by the economy and people who put their thumbs on the scales.
-What are your future plans? –
We plan on making as much brutal music as we can and to keep pumping a populist message to hopefully unite people.
