Grazia a Jada Parolini di WillWork4Funk, instancabile promotrice di ottimo soul e funky nonché grande dj, abbiamo intervistato Myles Sanko, astro nascente della scena soul funk britannica, dotato di una grandissima voce e di un grande talento.
Chiacchierando con lui ci si accorge che è anche una persona molto interessante ed entusiasta di ciò che fa.

iye Can you describe to us the evolution of your career ?
In 1994 when I was only 14 years old, I first dreamt of being a musician with no knowledge of music or singing so I threw myself into it and never looked back. I went from learning how to rap to then singing my raps and
discovering my voice, having my fist real R&B/pop band with my younger sister, to putting together a freestyle improv funk band called Bijoumiyo in 2007 to then embarking on my solo career in 2012. I have learnt a lot
over the years and the most important thing is to believe in yourself. I am just at the beginning, my evolution hasn’t stopped yet!
iye What does the word “soul” mean to you?
The word soul mean music with real feeling, coming from a deep place in your heart. Soul music seems to have everything I need in music. Energy,passion, emotion, sadness, joy and hope. It is everything to me!
iye Can you confirm that the UK is experiencing a sort-of revival with respect to funk & soul?
Yes I have been in the funk soul scene for a while now and I can certainly say the is a revival going on and thats because it is good music, probably the original popular music of our time but people have forgotten that so we
are hear to remind them how good it is.
iye What are the best funk & soul nights in London?
To be honest the are so many coming up in the last few years and it will be hard to list them. But you can always guarantee a good night at the Jazz Cafe, Ronnie Scotts, South London Soul Train, The Blues Kitchen, The
Hideaway, Floridita and many more.
iye What are your future projects?
Well I am currently writing my third album which I am very excited about as it will be a major turning point in my career so it better be good. No pressure Myles..hahaha!
iye How about your latest album?
My latest album “Forever Dreaming” has be wonderful received all over the world and has really pushed my career to another level. The love I am getting from it has just been overwhelming and that makes me very happy to
be doing what I am doing. With this album I hope to tour all the cities that have been on my list for a while and so far I am ticking them off. See you at your city soon!
iye Puoi descriverci l’evoluzione della tua carriera ?
Nel 1994, quando avevo solo 14 anni, il mio sogno era di essere un musicista pur senza conoscere la musica e non sapendo cantare, così mi ci sono buttato e non mi sono più voltato indietro.
Ho imparato a rappare, a cantare, a scrivere rime, ad esplorare la mia voce, poi ho creato con la mia sorella più giovane la mia prima vera band R & B / pop; in seguito, ho fondato nel 2007 un gruppo di freestyle funk che si chiamava Bijoumiyo e poi ho avviato la mia carriera solista nel 2012.
Ho imparato molto in questi anni e la cosa più importante è credere in se stessi.
Io sono solo all’inizio, la mia evoluzione non si è ancora fermata.
iye Cosa significa per te la parola “ soul “ ?
La parola “ soul “ significa musica come un vero sentire che arriva da un posto profondo nel tuo cuore. La musica soul possiede tutto ciò che voglio dalla musica: energia, passione, emozione, tristezza, gioia e speranza. E’ tutto per me.
iye Puoi confermare che nel Regno Unito è in corso un revival del funk e del soul ?
Sì io sono stato nella scena funk e soul per un po’, e posso certamente dire che c’è un revival in corso ed è buona musica, probabilmente è la vera musica popolare dei nostri giorni, ma la gente lo ha dimenticato così noi la ascoltiamo per ricordarci poi quanto è buona.
iye Come sono le notti soul e funk a Londra ?
Ad essere onesti ci sono così tante notti soul e funk che sarebbe veramente difficile sceglierne una. Le più valide sono al JazzACafe, L Ronnie Scotts, South London Soul Train, The Blues Kitchen, The Hideaway, Floridita e tante altre.
iye Quali sono i tuoi progetti futuri ?
Sto attualmente scrivendo il mio terzo album e ne sono molto eccitato perché so che sarà un punto molto importante della mia carriera, e sarà meglio farlo bene. Nessuna pressione Myles hahaha !
iye Quali riscontri hai avuto dal tuo ultimo album ?
Il mio ultimo disco “Forever Dreaming” sta andando splendidamente bene, e sta spingendo la mia carriera ad un livello più alto. L’amore che sto ricevendo mi rende molto felice per quello che faccio. Con questo album spero di girare tutte quelle città che sono sulla mia lista da un po’ e che stavo tenendo fuori.
